Ocean Mining Exploration Services
OFG provides deep water exploration capabilities for Submarine Massive Sulfide (SMS) and Gas Hydrate exploration. We do ROV, AUV and deep tow based electromagnetic and magnetic surveys, precision deepwater bathymetric, and ocean bottom gravity surveys to map hydrothermal mineralization on the ocean floor for the mineral exploration community. We do CSEM for Gas Hydrate exploration, both for strategic energy resources and geotechnical hazard evaluation. We do precision bathymetry for ore reserve estimation, route assessment and enviromental baseline studies.
OFG integrates and operates geophysical systems on ROV and AUV platforms to provide cost effective data acquisition.
OFG has cooperation agreements with key providers of specialized geophysical services and equipment in the marine and O&G business sectors to provide cost effective turnkey services for mineral exploration at all stages of an ocean mining project, from regional exploration to mining pilot studies.
The company has an active program developing new sensors for mineral exploration in the deep ocean. We have developed an ROV deployable ocean bottom gravity system. We have magnetic, Ph ORP Self Potential and Methane sensors that we have deployed on AUV surveys and ROV surveys. We are investigating a high powered deepwater seismic source for mineral exploration and geotechnical.
OFG has provided AUV pilots and technical staff to support AUV operations. We are experienced with AUVs and ROVs and have worked with Explorer class AUVs, and with the WHOI Sentry AUV.
OFG has been involved in ocean exploration programs for SMS mineral deposits, Manganese Nodules, and Gas Hydrate surveys and has had crews at sea every year since 2007.
In 2013 OFG operated its own ROV and boat to conduct a precision bathymetric survey for the BC Hydro electric generation authority behind the Bennett Dam. This survey produced very accurately located bathymetry with 10cm pixel resolution in up to 200m of water.
We are presently preparing to complete a CSEM Vulcan survey for Gas Hydrate evaluation in the 3rd quarter of 2014
Aug 26, 2007 First commercial electromagnetic survey for submarine massives sulfides at the Solwara 1 deposit. The survey was completed by Ocean Floor Geophysics Inc. for Nautilus Minerals. Fifty two line kilometers of survey were completed in 1500m water depth. The OFG Mark 1 EM system was built and deployed in 110 days.
OFG currently operates the Mark 3 EM system.
