Our History

OFG has historically served the subsea mining and exploration industries for SMS, gas hydrates, and poly-metallic nodules. The genesis of OFG was the development and patent of a new EM technology that can be deployed underwater on an AUV or ROV.

May 2007

Ocean Floor Geophysics Inc. is created by PK Geophysics Inc., Frontier Geosciences Inc., and Cellula Robotics Ltd. to provide geophysical services to the ocean mining industry. Nautilus Minerals and Teck Cominco fund the construction of the Mark 1 EM system and each retain an equity position. OFG applies for a patent to protect its proprietary EM system design.

Sept 2007

The first commercial deepwater EM survey for submarine massive sulphides is completed by OFG at the Solwara 1 project of Nautilus minerals. The system is built and deployed in 110 days.

April 2008

OFG signs a cooperative agreement with Canadian Microgravity to deploy a GT type airborne gravity meter on an AUV. Research to bring this technology to market begins.

July 2008

OFG deploys EM Mark 2, with concurrent operation of magnetometers on the ST212 ROV for Nautilus Minerals

December 2009

OFG deploys EM Mark 3 on the Fugro FCV3000 ROV for Nautilus Minerals

November 2010

OFG commences a  precision bathymetry, EM, sidescan and Sub-bottom profiler  for Fukada Salvage mapping deepwater SMS deposits located offshore Japan on the ship Shin Sei Maru.

December 2010

OFG establishes a cooperative agreement with Scintrex to deploy the Scintrex gravity meters using ROVs.

January 2012

OFG conducts an ROV deepwater EM survey in the south Pacific for a private client

February 2012

OFG commences a second deepwater ROV EM survey in Japanese Waters

May 2012

Fukada Salvage and Marine Works takes delivery of an ISE 3000m Explorer class AUV - "Plume Hunter" and an associated Launch and recovery system (LARS). OFG has an agreement with Fukada to market and operate this AUV outside Japan using OFG, and Fukada personnel.

January 2013

OFG integrates Plume Hunter water chemistry sensors and magnetometer into Fukada Salvage Deep 1 AUV and assists in SMS exploration program.

May 2013

OFG is awarded a contract by BC Hydro to produce a precision bathymetric survey behind the giant Bennett Dam in northern British Columbia. OFG purchases a Phantom DHD +2 ROV and a small vessel the "Electra" to do this work.

July 2013

OFG integrates water chemistry sensors and magnetometer into Fukada Salvage Deep 1 AUV and assists in Gas Hydrate exploration program.

2014

OFG instruments Deep1 AUV (ISE Explorer 3000m) with Plume Hunter water chemistry sensors and magnetometers and assists in the operation of  the Deep 1 AUV for multiple gas hydrate and SMS exploration programs.

OFG executes CSEM surveys and 3D inversion of survey areas for gas hydrate exploration program.

2015

OFG continues operations and geophysical support for Deep1 (ISE Explorer 3000m) with Plume Hunter water chemistry sensors and magnetometers for multiple gas hydrate and SMS exploration programs.

OFG executes CSEM surveys and 3D inversion of survey areas for gas hydrate exploration program.

OFG provides vessel, geophysics, AUV and sampling services to Global Seas Mineral Resources for nodules exploration campaign.
